On the way downtown I saw you

All the best rock and roll songs are about longing—yeah, there’s plenty of great songs about the social condition, or juicing up your Chevy, or how awesome yr new jeans are, but they’re still about romantic longing, no matter what it is you’re talking about. I think.

I knew for sure yesterday, at least.

I first heard Swearing at Motorists and their perfect pop on the Number Seven Uptown record. That was ten years ago and I haven’t been able to get the sweet ache of “Flying Pizza” out of my head since then. Just like “Reddy Teddy,” it says everything you could ever want it to say, just different. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
