This Polaroid is of two Jackson musicians, Daphne Nabors of the Overnight Lows and Ruby Rogers of the Black Belles.
The Lows’ new album, City of Rotten Eyes, is out on Goner Records on February 16. To say I’ve been waiting on this would be an understatement. I’ve been a huge fan of Marsh since White Trash Superman in the early 1990s, and of Daphne since Weaker Sex Trio and Readymade, Starkville contemporaries all. The Lows even make a guest appearance in the second Sandusky Review, on the “PAY UP” drawing at the Jitney. They are real rock and roll music: I cannot wait for this record.
The Black Belles snuck a 45 out before the Lows; their “What Can I Do” single is out now on Third Man Records, produced by the one and only Jack White. It’s an utter steal at five bucks, and you get multiple extra inserts so you can make your own cover.
It’s a good time to be in Jackson and a good time to love vinyl. So what am I trying to say with this Polaroid?
NEW PANTHEON. NEW LEGENDS. GO 2010
Jackson, MS is a crappy town and any music would have the same standards of the city. In other words, LOW. You must have low expectations to think either one of these groups are good. I bet neither one go anywhere.
i think the robot who ate my carpetbagger is back.
HA! Smith, you moron, whoever you are—you understand that by the Lows being on Goner & the Belles on Third Man, they’ve already made it, right? You did see that the Black Belles’ video was produced by Jack White, huh? Do you even know what this means, doofus?
“You have succeeded so hard you have failed, because you suck!” Ah, internet. Your idiots are so plentiful.
I agree with Replica Handbags, but it does sound like a good time, indeed, to be in Jackson. Nothing this big has happened since Welty, and my guess is that that, though perhaps profound, was not nearly as energetic.
I think you should get Athena and Diana some fake Gucci’s.
I cannot seem to get rid of that Gucci Spam. Uh, being named “Pretty Fakes” doesn’t help!
Them’s fight’n words “Smith”. I’m the only one who gets to dis on my friends like that. Yoo go gals! Rip the scene up!
