Dearest,
Well baby here I am in NYC again. Practice is going pretty good even if we can’t hit half the notes in Ain’t No Mt. We fudge the margins + shimmy some but it is working OK.
GREAT NEWS about your tour!! Fla. can be amazing even when you are there in the off-season like when you all will be there. Bring extra socks, you never know when you will get a laundromat!! LOL
Love, Mom

Dearest,
Well baby here we are again before a show. Tommie + Edie wanted to do CBGB “one last time” but I said no it was always nasty and cold. It is more your speed with graffiti and filthy bathrooms.
PLEASE reconsider school, I know I am no role models but that piece of paper is worth more than you think. “The biz” is VERY unforgiving as I well know

Dearest Deborah,
Well baby our first few shows did good. The start was a nightmare but the Voice did a good long article + all the old queens came out. Great to hear about Fla. I know that when you are starting out 20 and 30 folks is a HUGE deal Remember hide your money! DONT CARRY CASH!!

Dearest Deborah,
Well baby I have met a fellow and I think you will REALLY like him!! His name is Carlo and he works at the club where we do a lot of shows. Can’t wait for you to meet him.
Speaking of which, just three more weeks and you will be UP HERE! I don’t know where the place you’re playing is, but I’m sure some of the waiters will know it!! Can’t wait!

This correspondence takes place after the events of the Sandusky Review number four.

YAY! I really hope we’re moving to scans of B-Cups album covers and liner notes. More Sandusky Review, plz!
Oh, my. There is movement toward publication. (Deadline?)
Plus I always learn things on pretty fakes that I otherwise have no reason to know, like that Nola might mean a city. (or red stick for that matter.)
BRD, these are actually sketches that got tossed when writing the last one—I was cleaning up and found a stack of postcards that had these little stories written on them. It was sort of unsettling because I’d forgotten I’d done it, and what they were, at first.
The original idea was to have each copy have a (removable) vintage postcard on the front and illustrated with them throughout, with the postcards to Deb on the inside. The problem was, her mom and Tulip get on my last nerve, and they were the only ones talking, so I ditched them and let her talk for herself.
G-
I have drawers full of things that I have written in the past. Reading through them does often offer surprises. I say, “I wonder who wrote that?” Then the handwriting says, “You did!” I like your ideas here very much. (You could start a blog: Postcards and Surveys.) I love the vintage postcard idea. It so would work and I so want you to choose one for my next copy of the Sandusky Review
