FRACTIONNNNNNN!; or, the Fraction Goats

faked by Professor Fury Friday, August 7th, 2009

So, I’m reading my haul of comics from the last couple of weeks, and I come to Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca’s Invincible Iron Man #16. And I know I wrote a whole long thing a few months back about how the story seemed to be spinning its wheels and I worried that Fraction wasn’t getting to do his vision of the character, and look: OK, those first installments of “World’s Most Wanted” are slow, but the story has picked up enormous steam. If you’d asked me yesterday what I thought was the highlight of the series so far, I would have said it’s last issue, when Fraction breaks everyone’s hearts with the “Who’s Happy?” line. Because I love some Happy Hogan, and for Tony to have messed his brain up so much that he’s forgotten him? Too much.

But then, this week? If we needed further evidence that this is one Fractiony Matt Fraction comic, we have it:

FRACTION GOATS

That, my friends, is classic Iron Man villain Madame Masque, and what is she doing? SHE’S QUOTING THE MOUNTAIN GOATS. See here:

So yeah, Fraction is writing Stark and Madame Masque as the Alpha Couple. This is beautiful.

Go here, you can read more about Fraction’s use of Mountain Goats lyrics as dialogue in Casanova.
