Jerri Sherer

Polaroid Big Shot, with 690 film, mixed media.

I’ve long coveted a Polaroid Big Shot, a legendary monolith made for taking portraits, and for Christmas Lula truly surprised me with one. It’s taken me a few weeks to suss it out—the camera, only made for three years in the early seventies, is famously fussy, and I had a bad go with some slightly-decaying Magiccubes and learning that you really, totally have to clean the thing after using it, or you will jam that film up but fast.

It’s totally my favorite thing right now and the rest of the week I’ll be posting some new things I’ve made with it. This portrait is of the Mississippi glass artist Jerri Sherer, of Light + Glass Gallery. It’s a tad overexposed since I kept trying to get the flash to fire by, you know, mashing on it, so this is like the fourth CA-CHUNK in a row. Jerri is a good spirit x 1,000.
