Have y’all seen the new and rather elaborate advertisement that Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola have done for Louis Vuitton? I was somewhat surprised to see that the photograph was taken by Annie Leibowitz; it’s much more than simply portraits—it’s a little play complete unto itself, almost like a mini-Wes Anderson film.
What struck me originally was how miserably uncomfortable I thought Sofia to be; why must she lounge in the foot-high grass while her father reclines comfortably in rattan? I know, I know: ‘learning at the foot of the master,’ &tc. And while she seems content, the master peers into the distance, a script which I can’t quite read (but annotated “by Francis Ford Coppola”) clutched in his hand.
What I’m really trying to say is that it’s also a poor kid’s composition/figure drawing class.

I gotta move on to a few new projects or I’m going to find myself sketchblogging last week’s ads in the New Yorker, aren’t I?
