LO and it was a beautiful day at 121 Millsaps for the Hiss Lab-promoted triple threat of NO AGE, Abe Vigoda, and Infinite Body. The show simply could not have happened with Austin and Tyler, the art gurus at 121, and we give them much heartfelt thanks (check out that awesome No Age banner on their site!).

Here’s Randy and Dean of No Age gearing up beforehand; even just a few dates in, their intense live show was taking its toll on their instruments. I have to say, after years and years working around musicians, these cats were two of the nicest I’ve ever met. They also blew my face off with an amazing performance; Ole Diz has some photos of it, and there’s YouTubery to follow. The crowd was at its peak right then, well over 100.

Abe Vigoda generated a ton of heat themselves; their unique brand of music (what the Hub City Rockers—four intrepid travelers from Hattiesburg who came up to the show—called “calypso punk”) shook folks into a frenzy. I’m trying to document the 100+ folks who paid cover here and doing a bad job of it, then laughing and taking a photograph of Jaxart favorite Josh Hailey taking his own shot. Another band with absolute zero pretension that was only interested in putting on a good show and having a great time.
Hey, UPDATE! Today Abe Vigoda’s latest record, Skeleton, got a glowing 8.3 review from Pitchfork.
That brings to mind: everybody in the world was there. We were blessed with an amazing crowd in an amazing space, with folks traveling in from the Hattiesburg, Memphis, and Baton Rouge, and dang near all of the Jackson rocker community was there.

Infinite Body drew an intense and loyal crowd that watched as he sculpted bright flashes of treble and fuzz.

Josh Schooler’s posters looked mighty fine hanging up like that.
This was truly a great show and thanks to all who helped make it work. We tried to be good hosts to our new friends from L.A., many of whom skew vegan or vegetarian. We plied them with mouth prizes from Rainbow Co-op and Grocery (including a nice selection of Kombucha!), and suggested they might hit it on the way out of town. It looks like No Age loves Rainbow—and those seaside cakes are damn good.
Best show of July 2008, ever.

Looks like an amazing time! I hate that I missed it. I can’t wait to see what Hiss Lab will do next.
[...] That No Age show was awexxome. It was July 2, 2008. That was almost two years ago! And I totally just made this! OMG what is wrong with me. [...]
