Sandusky Review (Sleeping Aides + Razorblades).

faked by Monday, December 17th, 2007

Thanks to everybody who came out Friday night to the Stereo opening at Light + Glass. I think I’m still tired, but it was wonderful to see tons of old friends and many new ones. Once Roy and Jerri and I figure out exactly what all sold I’ll post a list for those of you who asked—there are a few pieces left for sale, but not many.

I’m happy that the show got me to finish the newest Sandusky Review, too—it’s been in the works for a while (the story has been kicking around since the summer) and it was just time to finish it. Huge thanks to Lula, Roy, Jerri, and S.J. for folding and stapling, essential but grinding work! Here’s what the two flip-covers look like:

The images and the name of the stories are drawn from the pop-punk masterpiece “Sleeping Aides and Razorblades” by the Exploding Hearts.

And here’s a glimpse at one of the three new drawings of the Jitney 14 I did for the SR, this one of the old entrance at the corner of Fortification and Jefferson, before it was redesigned in the forties.

Thanks again to everybody and I’m sorry if I may have seemed a little overwhelmed. I was, I was! But y’all made it a truly special night for me.

Update: OH YEAH! UH, if you want one of these suckers, drop me a line! $5 post-paid, first one back in print (sans Polaroid), gorjus.prettyfakes@gmail.com. YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!!

Good deal. Glad to hear it went well. Congrats! That’s a nice sketch of the Jitney.

  2. bulb says:

Sorry I was stuck in Starkvegas. Virtual congrats!

    Dead on sketch!

I remember it well as a kid living just over the hill on Whitworth Avenue back after my Mom and Dad had married each other the seond time … or it might have been the third time after the second divorce before the final divorce.

But, anyway, there is a FANTABULOUS wine store across the street now, Kat’s.

  4. My leg and my ass are sore from how often and hard I’ve been kicking myself for missing the show. I’m tired of limping around but it hurts to sit down. Hold me a copy of SR2! I’ll give you the bucks in what I hope will be the very near future.

Love the sketch of the J14 —I used to go to the pediatrician’s office right up the block there and was always fascinated by this weird grocery store that seemed so unlike the very sterile 70s-ish (?) building my doc was in.

Lewis! I just got my copy of Perfect Killer. It’s in my to-read-over-the-break-pile. (Along with an advance copy of V. Gischler’s Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse, about which surely more later.) It also sounds like maybe you need to write a memoir.

Lewis, you are dead right about Kat’s—I was remiss in mentioning that the wine served Friday night of course came from Kat’s and we had food from Basil’s . . . all of which are located around or in the English Village the Jitney still resides in.

  6. Lewis Perdue says:

The last time I was in Jackson, Kat was starting to expand his little store. Has that gone through?

I live in the heart of California wine country, and I can sat there is NOBODY here that’s smarter than Kat.

  7. gorjus says:

Oh yeah! Click on the link! The new store just opened, and has a huge selection and a great new building. I’ll post a triptych of the older building (under Fenian’s) in the next few weeks.

Tasho and Kanello Katsaboulas are the sons of Mr. K, and they do a great job of running the business now. Both great guys, too.

  8. Dr. Wagner says:

    so is Fenian’s gone now?

  9. gorjus says:

No, it’s still choogling. Kat’s just moved next door.
