The George Street Grocery.

The George Street Grocery, Jackson, Miss., July 31, 2007. Taken with a Polaroid 420 camera with Polavision 669 film.

I want to thank everybody for making the Sandusky Review such a success. It’s meant a great deal to me, and I have to admit that I’m pleasantly surprised by the responses, all of which have been extremely kind. I wanted to give special thanks to a few people who were ultra-supportive.

Roy Adkins spent several hours helping me lay out the artifact and, in at least one case, hand-stamped out the type to one of the story headings. He suggested the reverse-type of the cover, which gave me the perfect canvas for attaching a Polaroid, and helped in a million other small ways. He and his partner Jerri Sherer also stepped in at a crucial time financially and were two of the most critical supporters of the Sandusky Review.

Gclark sent three packs of Polaroid 779 film, a price far exceeding the little bundle of paper I sent him, but a typically expansive gesture from a guy who I used to spend a lot of time sending .mp3s of Martika’s “Toy Soldiers” renamed as rare R.E.M. and Big Star covers.

Beth Citycrab sent around ten dollars worth of .85 cent stamps (!!), enabling me to mail a lot of Sandusky Reviews at a time when money was scarce. The same goes for longtime PrettyFavorite (and fmr. gorjus roommate) Dr. Wagner, who laid a sheet of stamps on me while we went for fries down in the Hub City.

Another stamp saint was La Cat, who not only was featured in one of the cartoons, but sent a stack of cash and two rolls of stamps! If you got a Sandusky in the mail, it’s because Beth, Cat, and Wags made it happen.

TLG and Bulb were enthusiastic early supporters, both sending in cash far before there was anything to show for it. TLG had to endure a mail-snafu which delayed his delivery and Bulb generously sent more cash after he learned about my production costs—these folks are gems.

Dave Ashes was given the very first Sandusky at the Cherokee, and wrote some dang nice things about it, too. That same night the legendary Katie X was the very first person to lay down cash for an actual artifact!

This is not to mention the dozens of other people who were generous with their words and their cash, or mi compadre Prof. Fury (who bought several!), or Sally J. Nordan (who traded me a copy of Michael Chabon’s A Model World!), or the lovely person who inspired me to write and finish this first Sandusky Review. Thanks to all of y’all. The next one will be better! That is, if you like that stunning new genre, the flip-book of break-up fiction, with illustrations!

The SR was worth waaaay more than the crappy 5 bucks I gave you. It made me smile, cry, laugh and wonder, all in just a few short pages. That totally rocks. I, too, look forward to future editions.

  3. Read the first story so far and I dug it alot. And I found a whole bunch of polaroid film under my bed so I’ll be sending a couple packs in the next week or two when I get some time and money for postage. Can’t wait to finish it this weekend!

It’s amazing how all cars look like they are from the early to mid 70’s when you blur them enough. Perhaps I need to rethink drinking before noon so as to wander pleasantly through 1970’s era Baton Rouge all day long. Though I wonder if that would make my computer look like a tele-type.
