Update: the word is that Ginger’s show was a HUGE success. Also, PrettyFavorite Donna Ladd purchased “Poolside at the King Edward,” which delighted me to no end. Donna is not only a dear friend, she’s a personal hero, and one of the people I credit with making Jackson the place that I want to live my life. A photograph of her and Stanley Dearman—taken by the invincible Kate Medley—is hung in my bedroom to remind me of all I believe in and how great Mississippi can be.
That Polaroid of the Standard Life Building was absorbed into this collage, Poolside at the King Edward:

This framed collage will be available at a silent auction held by the Greater Jackson Arts Council at their annual Storytellers’ Ball, which will be this Thursday, August 16, at the Old Capitol Inn.
The theme this year is “Le Jazz Hot,” angling for a Scott and Zelda feel, with big band music and a full spread. Tickets are $50, which includes food and an open bar, plus an opportunity to bid on art from Jackson’s finest.
I have no idea what I’m going to wear. BONUS DETAIL SHOT!!

Also of note that night is the solo show of Jackson artist Ginger Williams, at the Cedars. Ginger has long been one of my favorite artists and this retrospective is sure to be amazing; she also has a brand-new website that you should look at, probably right now.

Crap. I was intrigued by the teaser, but when I opened the link, my mouth just dropped. This is freaking amazing! Can I call in bids? I can’t be there!! GAH!
This is amazing!
I want to eat all of Ginger Williams’s work.
Owch. This pressed my “romanticizes the King Edward” button until it hurt. Love it.
Quintessential outsider art or should I say, wishing you were outsider by the pool slathering Coppertone 8 on your thighs art but can’t because. . .
