Remember the Dead Too Have Voices.

faked by Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

I tell people two or three times a week that “I don’t care about Iraq.” I say it so much that I forget that every now and then I look to see how many women and men—in some cases, girls and boys—have died.

This number is from next week. In real life, it glitters and shines; I know that’s perverse but I can’t stop it. The text is from the writing on the War Memorial here in Jackson. The Memorial has a caveat engraved within it: “Remember the dead too have voices.” That promise is blurred and obscured. The text is from the words engraved around the Memorial.

This photograph was found on Commerce Street, one of those you know you’ve taken, especially as a child, on the rare times it snowed. That white magical day where everything seemed new and possible.

Prettyfakes is against war:
“And they walked in the midst of the fire, praising God, and blessing the Lord” (Imagine).
Living with War.
Prof. Fury on Captain America and the true nature of America.
Exodus 20:13.

This ripped my heart out and left me shaking and crying silent tears that I have bottled for so long; for the lost, the dead and the wake of grief that has culminated by this war.

    i love you…

  2. It’s crushing to think there’s really no chance of this ending for the next year and a half. Beautiful piece, gorj.

Plus so many more of coalition and Iraqi people.

    I grieve with you.
