A General Riot (Built to Spill).

faked by Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Last night I was making a mix for a friend and started digging through some scans of older ones. Dr. Wagner has some I like a lot, meticulous Pavement boots that we shrouded in splattered red ink and ancient newsprint. The one I did last night was black and white photos of Tuesday Weld from a ‘64 issue of the Saturday Evening Post.

“A General Riot” is one of my favorites. A December ‘99 live show by Built To Spill, the record wasn’t great but the chopped-up photographs of Joey Lauren Adams cut out of a beloved issue of the pre-move Oxford-American made it all worthwhile. And those letters; lord, how I love those letters, and that little sliver of paper curled on the back. What made it even better is that later I realized that my friend Donna Ladd had written the article about Joey, who’s now a resident of Oxford.

These scans are ancient so sorry about the quality (love that Scotch tape!). Prof. Fury and I have talked about posting songs or, in some cases, whole records or mixes (no released albums—we’re thinking boots). We could slap together some downloadable cover art and you’d be good to go. Is anybody interested in such a gig?
