That legendary dirty hessian Schooly J has created a banner for the upcoming Jaxxon ROXXSPLOXION, presented by the shadowy All-Awesome Productions, featuring the Black Lips + Ponys + Los Buddies. BEHOLD ITS GLORY:

Also of note:
Would you like to hear the most sincere and delirious singalong of all time? Along with a cautionary tale about the struggles with major-label life for a group of young fans? And a famed and beloved auteur threatening his audience with physical harm if they did not participate in one measure, two, three, four . . . ?! Then you need to head over to You Ain’t No Picasso and grab the Mountain Goats playing “The Sign.”
Oh, yeah. That “The Sign.”
And I can’t stop listening to the sweetly bittersweet “Sorry” by Youth Group [free download at Insound]. And I gave Jaysus Glam my copy of their first record, dangit! Looks like I’ll need to head over to BeBop.
I need to go there, anyway, because . . . MY SKULL DEMANDS KICKING by the latest full-length from feared Jaxpunx THE TUFF LUVS. Their new record Party Dudes has a fantastically kickass hand-drawn cover in the tradition of Fear and other West Coast legends:

I’ll buy it tonites and give proper credit to the great artist. Mike Brewski told me who it was the other night at Don’s but I think we were shotgunning Sparks at the time and I can’t remember.
They’re having a record release party March 30 at the Ink Spot which is going to be a monster. You can grab their song “Party Dudes (Fiesta Hombres)” directly from their record label, New Art School.
There is so much good music spiralling around Jaxxon right now I’m grinning just writing this!
Update: The Ponys/Lips show was a huge success. Well over a hundred folks came out on a Tuesday night and shelled out ten bucks for some rock and roll. JAXXON = 0HSEVEN ASCENDENT.
Looks like Marsh’s stuff, but i could be wrong on that. I’ll have to go find that MGoats track.
Oh, “The Sign,” you work of genius. This inspired me to give another listen to John Darnielle’s spoken word tribute to Spandau Ballet this weekend. It is a thing of genius.
pony day is also larry ferrari day! rock out with your protractor out
i recently caught the goats here in portland where they rocked out on a cover of ‘the boys are back in town.’ oooh good times.
i
that show broke my face.
i didn’t think it would be possible for the ponys to live up to my memory of their last jxn show. but damn, they did. black lips are gonna have my feet tapping for the next month.
oh, and their road manager said they’ll be back in two months!
hey thanks gorjus!
note*
Ink Spot under construction, so cd release postponed ‘till we get back from Florida.
If you just can’t stand it, you can pick it up at any bebop location!
ARGH! This entry* is why I should be reading this blog EVERY FUCKING DAY. I should not miss out on news like this esp. when I am sure the only music I listened to that night was the dull booming bass of a bad jam band cover band down the street from me in the cotton district.
*and also because this blog is really good.
