Katrina: One Year Later (Jaysus in Jackson, Miss.).

Although it looks like Ernesto may have veered towards Florida, that doesn’t mean a lot of us here in Jackson weren’t rattled by the possibility of another hurricane. Jaysus and Jaxxie were in full disaster prep mode, with good reason—last year they were without power for eight days.

I’m going to try and draw a little this week about the people I’m close to and how Katrina affected us.

Update: Don’t forget that today woulda been Jack Kirby’s 89th birthday!!

  1. Jaysus is better stocked than we are, and it’s to his credit. This hurricane season has me antsy.

My oldest daughter’s birthday is the day after Katrina hit. Her birthday will be forever marked with anniversary specials and news reports that “look back” on the devastation.

  3. Mr. Mooch says:

i’m not concerned at all, actually. no more than the other 31 years i’ve lived around this. maybe i should feel different but i don’t. i think its partly because if it ever happens again…this soon…I may just give up on this world. i can’t live waiting on that. it isn’t living.

The wife and I decided to do something unusual last night: watch some of the cable news stations (hoping to get Katrina coverage). After seeing some guys getting self-righteously indignant with former FEMA boss Brown for FEMA’s incompetence, they quickly dropped Katrina stories and then spent 20-30 minutes on the Jon Benet case.

I guess there’s plenty of incompetence for everyone.
