So, I’m thinking about hopping the City of New Orleans for a day-long jaunt to the Crescent City.
It’s cheap—$40 or so for a round-trip ticket—and, most imporantly, one may imbibe whilst travelling. So. Rad. (In fact, if you’re going overnight, you can bring yr own booze). And, like a lot of planes nowadays, they actually serve vegetarian and vegan meals. They even have a handy guide to the route that is, how do you say, a little on the shaky side when it comes to complexities like spelling proper names correctly.
Dear Amtrak,I am a Mississippian thinking of hopping a train and I was checking out your route guide. And . . . no. No, Kosciusko is not, and has never been, spelled in yr delightfully crayonic way (“Koskuisko”). Perhaps it’s our corrupted phonics that helps me—”Kozzie-esko”—which is bit simpler than the correct Polish pronunciation General Tadeusz Kosciuszko would have asked for.
I had to stop after I saw “Hazelhurst,” although that’s an easy one to miss, and Lord knows I didn’t do any fact-checking. I’ll leave that up to the grammar + spelling Pretty Fakers out there.
Yrs,

FIN.
I think Pam has probably marked you to be ejected from the train somewhere around Amite. This sounds fun, though—I’ve only taken one long train ride, and that was back in high school. This should be an adventure.
zip it, whistle blower.
yr gonna get vendela in trouble.
$40?! That’s awesome. But, um, I hope you don’t end up in Hatyszberg or Batten Rooje.
I have taken the train to New Orleans! From Tuscaloosa, for the Floons’ wedding (that was 5 years ago this Friday, by the way). You might want to ask if a large party of fraternity boys is also going, as this will color your trapped-in-public-transport experience significantly.
hey, FUN! when areyou going? i can show you a few haunts you ‘taint seen yet!
i DID NOT proof the website. in fact, we brought that point up to them on more than one occasion. you have your precious arnold to thank for that.
i once took the train to nyc, thinking i’d get to see the whole country that way. note to self: train tracks run in the grody part of every city there is, and the grody parts of different cities look an awful lot alike.
yep, it’s hazlehurst…
i’ve got a serious raw oyster jones and i think K and i are down in NO this weekend so i can get my fix…
give a ring if you likes…
uh…. that was hazelhurst
are gulf oysters safe now? or are they shipping them in from untainted waters?
