Before my fellow Catoptricians call me out for being insensitive, let it be known that while I drew this little splash of black humor, jp! himself wrote it.
Funerals are terrible creatures; far too often filled with lamentations of those lost as opposed to celebrations of them. Let it be known right now that the only approved Gorjus-stijl funeral for me is to play “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” on sombre organ, just like in the The Big Chill, and for the rest of the hijinx to be acted out according to Sean Na Na’s “Princess and the Pony,” which you can dig up here.
It’s all about the wine coolers. Latest Polaroid fantasies: a light-soaked and faintly majestic Kicker of Elves, come down for thee rad YAJ/Scooter & the Mopeds show (which he needs to write about!).
Then Nog serious in repose.
Lastly, my friend Shivermepork, who we simply must find a name for.
Have a jordache weekend.
Have to agree with the character Rob Fleming in Hornby’s book High Fidelity about the appropriateness of Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers to Cross.” It does have an organ, so it is the perfect compliment to “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
You’re on your own with the Sha Na Na stuff.
This is neat. And look at jp!’s bulging biceps! Rowwr!
Um, I don’t know if I remember enough about my ~18 hours in JXN to write anything coherent/interesting. But I’ll try.
I actually like Shivermepork as a name. Made me laugh.
Very cool drawing.
well, i’ve been working out.
for a brief moment…between panel 2 and panel 3…i tried as hard as i could to figure a way to put “I’m bad, I’m Nationwide” into a funeral…it just won’t work.
speaking of ‘won’t work’...
i think i wouldn’t mind ‘An American Trilogy’ by elvis playing when the pall bearers go get the caskett and tote me outta the joint.
I’d like to go out with Zappa’s “Watermelon in Easter Grass”, or anything by Journey arranged for string quartet.
i think i’d like trashcan sinatras’ “obscurity knocks” played at some point, but when i’m being wheeled out, i’d like some of those brazillian chick soccer fans with tight (or no) shorts to be shakin’ they booties to gleeful brazillian music, of which i know nothing about. i’d just like the girls to be there. actually, on second thought, if they could show up before i actually join the choir invisible, that would be better.
I’m picturing Will Ferrell singing at Blue’s funeral in “Old School.”
i’m thinking more Will Ferrell as Robert Goulet…although I think the funeral would have to take place in or near Reno for it to really be meaningful.
I’m thinking something dirgy by Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen at mine. Then a New Order, etc. synth pop party afterwards.
I want “Over The Rainbow” ala Stephen Bishop. That’s the first song I ever learned (Judy Garland style). So I want it to be the last song I hear going out.
