Well, I consider this cartoon a partial success. It’s just a sketch for a more “refined” cartoon, but I am so busy right now I wanted to post something. Somehow Herman & I are distorto-cartoons while Vendela looks like Venus at the Rock Show.
It owes a lot to James Kochalka’s off-the-cuff (but technically, compositionally, and emotionally satisfying) American Elf. I want to use more black spaces but I suspect that takes talent & time.
Either way, true story, and Spoon was awexxome.* They opened with “All the Pretty Girls Go to the City,” which is a mix-tape staple for me right now. And yes, the hotel comped our mini-bar usage (we found one other fake beer that the top had been replaced on).

No, no, that’s the kind of eyes exactly! Dots with marks around them to indicate expression. That’s why Vendela doesn’t fit—we’re distorted, not just cariactured.
