I find Last Year’s Man to be a good tear jerker. I also think that vodka or burbon would be your best liquor options. Gin makes me even a bigger bastard – if that is even possible.
Al Green x 7=Friday happy hour at Dave’s! I’m assuming you listened to the Al Green version.
BTW, Gorj, when did you graffiti Roxie’s restroom w/ XJ9 and Tini or do you have a Starkvegas acolyte?
Re: Smile. I suspect if you surf the web well, you could find recordings from the show in London when he first performed the album or even the subsequent tour.
FYI, I think Moz has also ditched the black plastic NHS look.
if things just aren’t working out…i say burbon and coke with Frank Sinatra Sings Only for the Lonely. Frank said both “that album should come with a suicide note” and “That album is so sad, you shouldn’t get that album without a Rx”
as for the Heart…does that mean the young robot about town is in LUUUV?
save those tears for the bonnie prince billy melancholiapalooza saturday night. there won’t be a dry beard in the house.
You didn’t mention that Sally & Larry freaked you out by crouching like monkeys behind your car after throwing rocks at your window.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again: you draw really good bathroom sinks/faucets.
I’m telling you, try Famous Blue Raincoat. Works every time. Trust me…
And try hard liquor. Again, every time.

cat power’s rendition of ‘wild as the wind’ feels like a punch in the gut. i love it!

These are such great suggestions for woe and misery. Leave it to catoptric readers to know the secrets of despair.
Yeah, if you want to read about drinking to excess in times of despair, and the proper soundtrack for such, catoptric is the place for you.
there’s some scud mountain boys songs that are damn good for misery. “grudge fuck” comes to mind.
Edith Piaf, Otis Redding doing “That’s How Strong My Love Is”, and Codeine, “Broken Hearted Wine” from Sub Pop John Peel Sessions
Red House Painters “Drop” and “Take Me Out”
so xj9 has a heart shirt now? when’d he start changing clothes?
I thought that was the Care Bears version of XJ9.
Good eye, jp! He changes shirts when he’s in different moods. Star=rock and roll, etc. etc.
yeah, he’s called “Love-a-lot-bot” when he wears the heart shirt.

Of course.
