i bought come on pilgrim/surfer rosa (the 4AD 2-in-1 version) on my prom night in 1989. i remember listening to “doolittle” during a drive from Eupora to [hometown] on Hwy 82 between greenwood and indianola sometime around that time, too. then i remember the first time i saw the video for “velouria,” which was over at KFB’s nasty pad on Front St. across from the telemarketing office, and we were all like, “what’s the point of THAT?” (i’m still kind of asking myself that question re: Bossanova, their weakest rekkid IMO, but still better than most bands’ best). then i remember buying Trompe le Monde and calling [our kind web host] to tell him the first 3 songs constituted the most amazing album opener ever, then i heard the 5th track—the jesus and mary chain cover—and thought i was going to fall out dead right then and there. wow—that was in october of 91. they put out 3 very strong rekkids in a very short period of time. ain’t nobody done that since!
Gbaby, I hate to disagree but as three album runs go
I’d pump GBV’s Bee/Alien/Bushes as better than the Pixies, but then I didn’t really care for any of the albums after Doolittle myself.

the simdog pointed this out to me several years ago. it’s a reference to a freakout dada flick dali was involved with – famous for it’s slicing up eyeballs scene.
you wins the prize!! i have been (intentionally) misquoting the lyric since i heard it wrongly, lo, one decade ago. it drives lucas CRAZY to hear people say “shape and illusion,” so i do it every time.
on the other hand, it’s still a better lyric than anything about dali!
Are you fucking crazy? Shape and illusion is gay and I mean that as no offense to gay people. Something about the Andalusian dog is way, way cooler.
Not to burst anybody’s bubble, but read the source of this story. A spokesman for Frank Black said this. Listen, he says a lot of things and recently he said the Pixies had been practicing lately (they haven’t been) and maybe his earlier comments facilitated this, but you have to understand that Frank/Francis/Charlie already plays with D. Lovering and J. Santiago all the time. The only holdout is Kim Deal and Black Francis’ pride. He hates her, as far as I can tell, and the feeling is mutual. I’ll be happily wrong in this dept., but I’m not convinced this story is true yet, until a label comes out and confirms it. Frank says a lot of things, like I said, just to fuck with people.
i was thinking they were just testing the waters—make an announcement and see what kind of response it gets.
actually, now that a bit of time has passed (um, 19 hours), i’m thinking a reunion may not be that great a thing after all. the jane’s addiction reunion was rather underwhelming; pixies would have a hell of a lot to live up to. with the exception of a record here and there, their post-pixies projects have been rather dull affairs.
I hope I’m wrong! I do! Here’s what I want…world tour, NO new album. Frank Black’s newest one is actually pretty good. The Breeders bored no one into submission with the Green Album…oops! I mean, Title TK. Blah. I think a tour would be fine and dandy. No new records!

i have not heard that the practices WERE NOT real until yr post, bg. is that true? and why does frank black have a “spokesman”?
here’s a compelling reason to do it: they probably don’t make a lot of money separately (see: jane’s addiction).
