I’m tired. It’s just a shade past five o’clock, and I want to go to bed. No dice, though, because I have some stuff to tell you guys, and a bit of explaining.
First off, I have a big motion due for a large firm in town that I’m doing contract work for, an article examining the legal ramifications of a recent law for the Jackson Free Press, and some editing to do on my article for the Mississippi Trial Lawyers’ magazine Voir Dire (snazzily titled “The Fraud of Fraudulent Joinder.” Got you all worked up, didn’t it?).
Our Mississippians for Dean webblog should go up sometime today or tomorrow as well, and I have to create some content, and my graphic designer for the Gorjus Rex cd compilation Jackson Skyline is supposed to get back to me this week, triggering a lot more work on that project. I may be buying a great little Belhaven house—my lil’ garage apartment just comes as a bonus with it! This is all in addition to my job, and—oh yeah!—school.
I’ve got Environmental Law, Ethics, Business Associations, Labor Law, and a neat seminar on Jurisprudence, which involves a lot of Feminist Legal Theory and such. I’ve also got to finish putting together this Fall’s Law Review book, focusing on practice in Mississippi and the Fifth Circuit—not the least bit of which involving revising my Note, Walk Before They Make Us Run: Republican Party of Minnesota v. White and the Need for Judicial Reform in Mississippi. Then I’ve got to coordinate the upcoming Copeland, Cook, Taylor & Bush Moot Court compeition, since, well—I’m the Competition Chair. I suppose I also have to get my Bar application ready, and send out a stack of resumes to federal judges (although most of those down in my neck of the woods are Reagan and Bush appointees).
Two wonderful asides: today I was invited to join the American Inns of Court, a true honor. Then this Sunday I get to stand up as best man to one of my closest friends in the world. I’m really excited about that.
Why am I telling you all this? Honestly? Well, I just missed my tenth high school reunion. That triggered a bit of an self-assessment. This little exercise was a bit of that—seeing who I was at the turn of my life. I went from being a little down in the dumps to pretty proud.
Secondly, I’m taking a leave of absence from Catoptric. GClark has given me a wonderful forum here, and I truly appreciate it—hell, I’ve still got plenty left to say. I’ve got my latest mixtape to post (you can download most of the songs for free from bands’ sites!) and lots of links and stuff—not the least of which is to try & push you guys over to reading our Mississippians for Dean website. Plus plenty to write about legal wonkery perpetrated by evil Republicans!
I just won’t have as much time to post regularly. So don’t think if you don’t see me commenting on your blogs as much that I’m not reading, or if I’m not posting much here that I’ve dropped off the face of the earth. I’m still reading, and still thinking about you guys. I’ve just got to get a little work off my desk before I come back home.
damn. i’ma gonna need to post more now.
hurry up and graduate, dammit!
Are we using the word “graduate” again?
Well god damn, man, that sucks the root. My only consolation for not being able to appreciate your political and law-related posts is knowing that you’re spending time on working to BOOT bUSH.
Man….I understand. I’m fucking swamped this semester. Geography of Sub-Saharan Africa, Environmental Justice, and a seminar in Poli. Sci. Research (sucky!). All of them extra-long grad school style courses. Yuck. This was supposed to be my easy semester!
I’ve been slacking off on blogging because I’ve been too busy, so I understand, man. It’s cool.
Congrats on the Inns of Court. We have a number of chapters in these here parts, but I’ve never looked too closely into it, not being a trial lawyer and all.
