three million dollars in eight days.

this has been a good week for america, with lawrence v. texas rattling all the cages, and with moveon’s internet poll literally changing the face of politics in the united states. i’m happy for governor dean, who—while he didn’t get the 50% needed for an endorsement—still got a hefty chunk. and you can see it in the radical change in financing for dean for america. before moveon and dean’s appearance on meet the press, they had just over three million bucks. now they have over six.

this is important for two reasons—dean campaign manager joe trippi explains:

To put this in perspective the McCain for President campaign had a surge of $2 million in Internet contrbutions—but that happend in the days after Sen. McCain’s victory in New Hampshire in January 2000.

the insinuation being, of course, that we’re going to win that primary, too—and do even better. that scenario is problematic, since john mccain is merely a footnote in the holy mess of the 2000 elections. dean needs to do a lot better.

but the second reason is that there were over 21,000 individual contributions. twenty-one thousand people. that’s a small city.

maybe this internet thing is finally turning out after all. hey republicans! blame ebay. if not for it, perhaps we wouldn’t have the proliferation of paypal or even reasons to use money online, other than secure credit card transactions with abercrombie. it’s a whole new ballgame.

OK, so is this due to http://www.Moveon.org ? or just Dean himself. Dean’s got some cool T-shirts out, BTW. i like him, but i’m still not sure if i can smell the McGovern on him.
